As a result of the increase in MAC owners, rooms have met the challenge head on and created MAC friendly poker software. Even back as little as 5 years ago, you would have done well to find any MAC friendly poker sites out there. MAC Online Poker Sites

Apple has been largely responsible for the demand for MAC compatible software with the release of their Macintosh PC's and notebooks - not to mention the ever growing selection of MAC computers that are on the market. From the stance of the poker rooms, one of their key goals is to keep you playing and so it has been seen as an essential step to offer a download option to MAC users. It's only a surprise that more sites haven't enhanced their reputation by offering MAC compatible software. We fully expect this to change over the coming years.

 

Why isn't the software compatible?

It's a very good question. The answer has two elements. Firstly, any room not offering MAC compatibility is missing out on business, plain and simple. In terms of the real players in the market, it's really only a matter of time before they join the bandwagon - especially with the rise in the number of MAC users. The second element is more technical, but provides a good explanation. Most online poker sites offer a download that comprises of a .exe file. It is these files that MAC's can't handle so it's always going to be tricky building one software download that's compatible with everything. The solution is to create a separate downloadable version of the software for MAC users and a separate one for Windows users (that can use the .exe file).

 

Do i lose anything using the MAC Version?

It's a tricky one to answer as each poker room has their own version. On the whole, the answer is no. Everything you get in the standard download you will get in the MAC poker version. Of course it also largely depends in whether the client is browser based (no download) or a download is needed. You will potentially lose some umph on the graphics front where there is a no download client and it can also be difficult to muti-table successfully where you don't have a download. Other than these points, it's pretty much the same ball game with perhaps very minor differences.
